The Last 3 Paintings

Updated: Jul 5, 2023

For these paintings, I wanted to push my learning even further with a a limiting painting, a textured painting, and a work of art without paint.

Acrylic Paint

This work of art was for my sister-in-law Ariel. I wanted to try a painting with only a few colors in the palette, as well as only using 1 sized brush for the entire painting. I really enjoy how this painting ultimately came out. I also wanted to incorporate a style that I remember fondly, THE DOG. This brand was popular when I was younger and encapsulated every notebook, folder, and book cover that I took to school with me. These images would have a dog with a fish-eye lens, making their nose and head look massive compared to their body.

Acrylic Paint

This painting was for my oldest brother Zeb. I wanted to capture a rainy day commute to the office, but also practice making textured art with acrylic paint. I thought this was an interesting exercise, as I used a palette knife and broad, seemingly uncontrolled strokes for this piece. I think it portrays what driving in the rain looks and feels like, all while being able to reflect the hustle and bustle of my older brother's life.

Marker, Paint Pen

For the last work of art, I wanted to make something that reflected my friend Erin. She aspires to live in Colorado, loves Marvel, and has a dachshund named Arlo. I wanted to make a comic-book style work of art with marker, as I thought this medium would be the most controlled for the job. This piece also expanded on a subject that I almost never draw - people. I think that this piece came out great and reflects all things Erin - even featuring her hat and shoes that she wears to every hangout.
