Recreating History Showcase

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

This honors experience centered around recreating famous works of art in my own style. Through this experience, I hoped to both learn more about the history of art, as well as explore and learn how to use different mediums in my own art.

After some initial research and watching a couple of documentaries, I created an outline of the pieces I wanted to recreate. Of those, the ones that I chose included Girl with Hair Ribbon, The Great Wave off Kanagawa, The Creation of Adam, The Starry Night, The Persistence of Memory, The Son of Man, and Girl with a Pearl Earring. With this array of original pieces, I then explored the media I wanted to use for each of them, the potential dimensions, and how I would change up the original works of art to fit my own style.

The next phase of this experience was creating the works of art. I used a variety of mediums throughout this experience, including Sharpie, markers, watercolor paint, gel pen, archival pens, and colored pencils. Although a larger variety of mediums is what I had originally planned on using, I am glad I got to explore these few mediums through multiple works of art to fine-tune my skills. Using my creative liberty, I was able to explore different concepts across the board, but mainly recreated the original pieces using more color and making the pieces more playful.

Below is a showcase of the different pieces I completed during my Recreating History Honors Experience, as well as a gallery of the original works of art.
