After my internship ended with Ulliman Schutte back in August, I made sure to keep contact with the Marketing department and told them to reach out if they ever needed something. Throughout my fall semester at UC, I worked alongside the marketing department on my own time creating new designs for projects both big and small.
The first and most notable project was to create a design for a fence that would go around one of our construction sites down in Virginia Beach. This project dealt with communicating with vendors, using large and different dimensions, receiving feedback from many, many teams, as well as many revisions and creative walls. This project started at the beginning of September and is still ongoing with new feedback, revisions, and ideas being sent my way.
Below is a progression of my drafts for the fence designs, as well as some other content used in this entire process.
Alongside the fence design, there was also an idea to create matching signs for a nature trail nearby our worksite. These designs included the scannable QR code to learn more about the project and updates, as well as match the design of the fence to have one cohesive theme.
After these options were made, however, there was feedback sent my way from a different team involved in the project. Instead of a green, park-oriented theme, the client wanted water motifs, different wording, and additional content included. The new revisions are as follows, and I am still waiting on some additional feedback.
This project has been equal parts fun and challenging, but it has been a great experience as I've been able to overcome challenges such as shortcomings in creativity, gathering feedback and applying it, and learning to roll with the punches.
In between feedback and stages of the fence project and nature trail designs, I worked on many smaller projects including creating an Ulliman Schutte Christmas card to send out, creating a novelty check to hand to a school district, making business cards, and fixing and polishing logos for sister companies.
More recently, I've also been tasked with creating a new booth design for recruitment fairs, as well as creating some custom decks of cards to hand out at both recruitment events and conferences. Some drafts from each of these projects are included below.
The current drafts for the playing card designs:
I've been incredibly lucky to continue working with Ulliman Schutte on different projects, and hope to continue working on more project throughout the Spring semester.
